Garden Haven and Farm
Tucked into the heart of Pittsboro, The Garden Haven & Farm is where Word & Plant’s botanical dreams take root. More than a farm, it’s an evolving landscape for exploration, creation, and connection—a place where dye plants mingle with herbs, edible flowers bloom beside aromatics, and everything grown is chosen with intention.
This living garden is home to our workshops, pop-ups, and hands-on learning experiences. Whether you’re blending a botanical roller, crafting a fairy garden mushroom pot, or harvesting herbs for tea, The Garden Haven is where it all begins.
What You’ll Find in the Garden Haven
Our gardens don’t grow in neat rows—they spill, spiral, and unfold like a living patchwork. Each space blends beauty and purpose.
As you explore, you’ll find:
Edible flowers and culinary herbs for cooking, bouquets, teas, and mocktails
Plants for dye, scent, and medicine, all growing together in joyful mixings
Flowers and foliage for wreaths drying in the sun for later crafting
Pollinator favorites and native perennials buzzing with butterflies and bees
Storybook mushroom homes, hand-painted and nestled beneath trees nurturing beautiful and delicious mushrooms
Cozy log circles under the majestic white oak—perfect for playing cards, sharing snacks, or simply resting
This is a garden for the senses—for seeing, smelling, touching, tasting, and imagining. Every visit brings something new in bloom, a fresh idea, or a small delight waiting to be noticed.
Coming Soon: Our Production Field
Just on the other side of the farm cottage, we’re preparing to expand! Once the rain lets up and our deer fencing is installed, we’ll begin planting a dedicated production area.
This new space will allow us to scale up our growing of specialty herbs, edible blooms, and dye crops for botanical goods, workshops, and collaborations, particularly those that the deer love to munch on!
Learn & Create With Us
We offer small-group workshops and seasonal camps rooted in creativity, nature connection, and plant-based learning. Some of our favorites include:
- Aromatic Distillation: Learn how to prepare, distill, and use fresh plants to create your own hydrosols and fragrant waters.
- Natural Soapmaking: Craft your own allergen-conscious bar and liquid soaps using farm-grown botanicals and skin-loving ingredients.
- Natural Dyeing and Ecoprinting: Work with flowers, leaves, stems, and seeds to create functional art you can wear, carry, or festoon your home with.
- Seasonal Camps & Family Workshops: Creative, screen-free experiences for all ages—rooted in plants, place, and play.
All workshops focus on gluten-free and top-allergen-free formulations and materials, with an emphasis on sustainability and joyful, plant-based creativity.
