What We Teach
At Word & Plant, our workshops, camp days, and hands-on sessions are designed to connect people to plants through purposeful, joyful learning. Whether we’re making fairy houses, pounding flower prints, stirring soap, or planning a dye garden, every experience is crafted with care — and rooted in real practice at The Garden Haven & Farm.
We teach in a way that’s approachable and layered: full of sensory connection, storytelling, practical skill-building, and just enough science to spark curiosity. Many of our offerings give you the chance to learn directly with the plants we’re working with — harvested or growing right here on the farm.
- Natural Dyeing:Learn to harvest and work with plants to create beautiful botanical prints and naturally dyed fibers — from eco-printing and flower pounding to traditional mordanting and dye bath techniques on items to beautify your home and life.
- Kids Workshops & Camp Days: Nature-based creativity, sensory engagement, and farm-friendly activities designed for young learners. Our drop-off sessions and group programs prioritize fun, safe, plant-powered exploration.
- Botanical Skincare & Soapmaking: From gentle cleansers to vegan salt spa bars, discover how to create nourishing, allergen-conscious body care that blends sensory delight with natural integrity.
- Aromatic Crafting: Explore distillation, scent blending, and scent-based rituals for home and body care. Whether you're using basic kitchen tools or learning with a still, you'll work with herbs and flowers from our growing space to craft functional, nature-centered products.
- Beyond the Basics: For those ready to go deeper, we offer themed series and advanced sessions. Whether you're building a dye garden, formulating your own soap, or exploring herbal first aid through hands-on remedies and seasonal wisdom, we’ll support your growth with practical depth and heart-centered guidance.

You can invite Word & Plant to lead:
- Pop-Up Workshops at your site featuring botanical skincare, natural dyeing, plant-based artistry, and other hands-on experiences with herbs and flowers
- Therapeutic Horticulture Programming for deeper engagement — supporting wellness, learning, and connection through meaningful relationships with plants and the growing process
- Custom Workshops for community groups, schools, retreats, or organizations
What we teach
Our local workshops (Triangle, NC) are hands-on, creative, and designed to deepen your connection to plants. From soothing skincare to natural dyes and aromatic distillations, each class blends practical skills with plant-centered learning.
With a seed-to-product approach, you’ll not only make something beautiful—you’ll also learn how to grow, harvest, and work with plants to keep creating long after the workshop ends.Â
- Herbal Skincare & Healing Remedies: Learn to make soothing lotions, potions, and bubbling brews to nourish skin and support wellness from the inside out. Our focus is on "seed to skin," so you'll deepen your understanding of healing herbs and how to cultivate them in every workshop.
- Natural Dyeing: Learn to harvest, prep and work with plants to create unique hand-dyed and flower/leaf-printed clothes, home decor, and other natural fabric items.
- Aromatic Crafting: Discover the art of distilling hydrosols and essential oils for home and body care—whether you’re using basic kitchen equipment or diving in with a traditional copper still for those who catch the bug!
- Beyond the Basics: These workshops aren’t one-size-fits-all. Each class is thoughtfully crafted to go deeper—teaching you about the plants we’re working with, how to responsibly forage them, and how to grow them in your own garden. From seed to finished product, you’ll learn the full journey and leave with the knowledge and confidence to keep creating long after the workshop ends.
Our approach to sustainability prioritizes both the health of the ecosystem and the gardener—designing gardens that are gentle on the environment while being easy to care for and enjoy. Circles meet through a blend of in-person and virtual sessions, making it easy to stay connected and on track.

Looking for deeper connection and support as you grow? Our local Garden Learning Circles and seasonal programs offer guided, step-by-step learning in a supportive community setting.
- Garden Learning Circles: Collaborate with fellow gardeners as you create a garden that’s sustainable for both the ecosystem and your lifestyle.
- Seasonal Programs: Explore focused themes like edible landscaping, dye gardens, medicinal herb havens, and pollinator paradise gardens through multi-week sessions designed to fit the rhythm of the seasons.
